✅ A. Pre-Treatment • Crushing: Reduce shell or biomass size (~1–5 mm) • Washing: Remove dust, sand, and impurities • Drying: Reduce moisture to ~10–12%
✅ B. Carbonization (Pyrolysis) • Rotary Kiln / Vertical Kiln at ~600–700°C in absence of air • Output: Charcoal / Biochar • Byproduct: Syngas or tar (can be used as fuel)
✅ C. Activation Process
There are 2 types: 1. Steam Activation (most common): • React char with steam at 800–1000°C • Creates a highly porous structure (activated carbon) 2. Chemical Activation: • Add activating agent like phosphoric acid or KOH • Requires lower temp (400–600°C) • Used for powder and special grades
✅ D. Cooling, Grinding & Screening • Cool activated carbon using water/air • Grind to mesh sizes: 8x30, 20x40, 100 mesh (as required) • Separate into Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) or Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC)
✅ E. Packaging • Bag in HDPE bags (25 kg / 50 kg) • Optional: Moisture-proof laminated bags for export
